Joan Sonnenberg's "new" Massurrealistic work incorporates abstraction and realism, which coexist in harmony, enriching and enhancing each other - often experimenting with complex networks, rhythmic dark lines and brilliant color. Her images are vaguely reminiscent of cubism, futurism, and surrealism but more appropriately aimed toward the new millennium. They are powerfully unfamiliar and free from the rehashing of formal abstraction.

Sonnenberg, influenced by her years of residence in Brazil and Japan, is or has been represented in numerous exhibitions and collections throughout the United States, South America, Europe and Asia.
