MULTICULTURAL
GARDEN ENTRYWAY - 2001
Plantation, Florida
6
concrete columns, each 7 feet high and 30 inches wide with a ½"
wrought iron canopy arch spanning 14 feet from column to column
plus colored paver walkway.
This
entryway feature was designed in an ethnically diverse neighborhood
as part of the City's Multicultural Garden Project. The columns
consist of clay relief sculptures and mosaic tiles. After meeting
with the community plus working several hours at Plantation Elementary
School, I came up with a design that incorporated student's designs
(their hand prints on top and bottom of the columns) plus my own,
which addressed the cultural diversity of the neighborhood. I
presented my maquettes and drawing boards before the Park East
neighborhood Community Council, the Plantation Parks Advisory
Board and the Plantation City council.
Awarded
the 2002 FASLA). (American Society of Landscape Architects, Florida

ANIMAL
GARDEN - 2003
Animal Care Facility, Pompano, Florida
5
sculptures each 4' W x 12' H, powder-coated colors on aluminum
sheets mounted on steel poles.
In
order to heighten public awareness of the Animal Care Facility
in Pompano Beach I was selected by the Broward Cultural Affairs
Council Public Art and Design Committee to design, fabricate and
install artwork. I created five recognizable and significant works
of art that are bright, bold, simple and direct and serve as an
icon or symbol that will be readily associated with dogs and cats.
In addition, the artwork was designed to stimulate interest in
the pet adoption services offered at this facility. The actual
artwork is the negative motif created by the omitted animal in
each metal sheet. One foot behind each animal is a solid sheet
of powder-coated aluminum in a contrasting color to 'show off'
the omitted animal.
Budget: $9,100 |

IN
THE SPIRIT OF PEACE - 2005
Veteran's Park, Tamarac, Florida
5
powder-coated aluminum flames: 22' H, 15' H, 12' H, 11' H, 9'
H, x 2' W x 6' D
In
the Spirit of Peace was created for Veterans' Park in Tamarac,
Florida to symbolize an everlasting Eternal Flame. Fabricated
from aluminum, the five abstracted Flames represent each branch
of the armed services. Ranging in height from 22 feet to 9 feet,
the sculpture is silver in color during the day but transforms
into a glowing flame by night due to three lights embedded in
the base with colored lenses.

REACH
FOR THE STARS - 2004
N. County Homeless Assistance Center, Pompano, Florida
24'
L x 19' W x 14' H
Concrete
foundation with benches, brushed aluminum columns, brushed aluminum
plus steel motifs.
Commissioned
by the Broward County Public Art and Design Program, "Reach
for the Stars" was designed for the N. County Homeless
Assistance Center in Pompano Beach, FL. It is intended to serve
the residents as an inspirational meeting place in the courtyard
of the facility. The artwork, suggesting a house or home, consists
of a sculptural roof and support columns installed on an elevated
concrete foundation. The steps leading up to the artwork is
adorned with inspirational quotations taken directly from the
facility's recovery curriculum (example: "A man's true
wealth is the good he does in this world." "Each day
is a fresh start.") Seating will allow the artwork to be
utilized for small meetings and also afford residents a special
place for relaxation in the dappled shade of the sculptural
roof. The cast shadows act as artwork unto themselves.
Budget:
$51,300
