Katherine McCauley was born in Kansas City, Missouri, where she studied at Kansas City Art Institute. She received a B.S. as Art Major at Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois. The Chicago art scene, attending a French school and much time spent in Taos, New Mexico, influence her life and work.
After moving to Ft. Lauderdale she taught at the Museum of Art, was head docent, and helped form "'Art Amaze and a museum film. The theme of her body of work is the spiritual search of ancient cultures. Their quest continues in our era. She incorporates archaic languages and burns areas with a blowtorch to recall that burning was used ritually as offering and purification.

McCauley has had six one-person exhibits, has won numerous awards and has been juried into many important shows. She is in the collections of Broward County Public Art and Design-Governmental Center and Barat College, Lake Forest, Illinois.

Our era is a frenetic, materialistic one. My work looks for underlying meaning. I must allow something of the Spirit to exist under its skin. On the surfaces I explore many techniques. I use materials which are non-traditional and unique. Ancient scripts also appear; found objects are used. Much is symbolic. Our world was once lit only by flame. I burn areas to recall the rites and beliefs of archaic peoples. Burning was used in rituals of purification and offering. I am influenced by these cultures because we are linked to them. Theirs was a spiritual search. Their era's quest continues today beneath the skin of each of us. The God I seek is the God I found.
